Obituary of Phyllis J. Maddux

Graveside services for Phyllis Jean Cook Maddux will be Monday, November 15, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Chico Cemetery. Family will receive visitors on Sunday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home.  Phyllis entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Lake Bridgeport, Wise County, Texas.

Born on September 18, 1948 in Nocona, Montague County, Texas to Eldon Murphy Cook and Wilma Patterson Cook, both of Nocona, Phyllis married Donald Eugene Maddux of Chico, Wise County, Texas on 28 June 1968 in Wise County. After the passing of Phyllis’ father, her mother, Wilma married Charles Ford resulting in two brothers, Charles F. Ford and wife Patsy, and Bobby Ford and wife Beverly. 

Phyllis was a long-time business owner in Bridgeport, Texas. She was first a manager for Perry's, then established her own gift shop, Expressions, a very popular high-end gift and card shop. She was the driving force in the success of her business, supported by Donald. Together, they made a great team.

Survivors include her loving husband of 53 years, Donald; son, Mike Maddux and wife Julie of Chico; daughter, Cindy Sheddy and husband Chad of Argyle, Texas; brother, Bobby Ford, sister-in-law Patsy Ford; grandchildren, Meredith Highsmith & husband Aaron, Shane Maddux, Allison Maddux, Jacob Sheddy, Joseph Sheddy; great grandchildren, Eili, Emelia, and Callum Highsmith; beloved aunt, Janice Patterson Pieroni of St. Augustine, Florida; immediate cousins, Karen Pieroni of Dallas, Mark Patterson & wife Cindy of Rowlett, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.   Phyllis had a host of friends, as "everyone who knew Phyllis loved her."

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon "Cotton" Cook and Wilma Patterson Cook Ford; stepfather, Charles Ford; brother, Charles F. Ford; sister-in-law, Beverly Ford and uncle, Wyndal Patterson of Dallas.
